Ukranian Festival and the Alderwood Site

I met a lot of really nice people today at the Ukrainian festival at Centennial Park. The entertainment and food was fabulous too. It was fun even in the rain.

Today Steve on Valermo asked me about the Alderwood school site. It's a mess. Three weeks ago I called manager’s office at the Toronto Lands Corporation and asked them if they would clean it up. It turns out that the school is being used for a movie set and they need the grass to be long for the movie. However they did say that if there is a part of the site that is a particular concern to residents to let her know. I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who is concerned about part of it. Please let me know and I can speak to the managers at TLC.

Today was also our first official day of knocking on doors. Hope to meet as many people in the ward as possible.

Live Locally, Learn Locally

“Live Locally, Learn Locally” will be a key campaign theme I will be focusing on. Community schools benefit our children in so many possible ways. The cost savings of closing these schools is minimal. Yet the costs to our children and communities are high. Learning, playing and building relationships close to home in the early years is very important. Two of our community schools, Lanor and George R. Gauld are at capacity, but they do not fit in with the board’s vision of hope with larger schools. The nearby schools that these students would be moved to are already at capacity. How much would it cost us to expand these schools to acommodate more students and is it really worth it? I just became a fan of Friends of Community Schools. I invite you to do the same. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Toronto-ON/Friends-of-Community-Schools/8182436191
